About the Colloquium

Each year, I organize a Colloquium titled “Quodlibetal Questions on Education” at the Institute of Education (IOE), University College London, attended by academic staff of the IOE and the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, and invited friends. (Or else, “The Bedford Way Colloquium” for short, since we meet at 20 Bedford Way, which is where the IOE is”)

The Quodlibetal Questions on Education or Quodlibet for short is usually parked in the research week for the International EdD and EdD DA programmes at IOE.

NIE academics also spend a week there under formal appointment as Honorary Research Associates. This is part of an effort to intensify interaction and collaboration between NIE and IOE staff members, which should be a natural extension of our ongoing collaboration in the EdD Dual Award programme offered by IOE and NIE.

There is a special interest topic for the Quodlibet that changes from year to year, although we also welcome papers on issues that are tangential to the year’s special theme.

Quodlibetal Questions on Education: The Colloquium

Colloquium will be placed in the Research Week of the EdD (International) programme at IoE.  The colloquium includes presentations from IoE as well as NIE faculty members.

All Are Invited

Students as well as faculty members of the IOE are very welcome to join us.  We would be delighted to have you. Please write Dr Jude Chua (jude.chua@nie.edu.sg) if you are keen to join us, or perhaps give us a paper.  See the call below.

Call for Papers

As the title of the colloquium suggests, we welcome papers related to educational matters, and papers can address anything what-so-ever (Latin: quod-libet; whatever you like).   Papers can be conceptual or empirical.  There’s no word limit, and although you won’t be allowed to read us your whole book, we would welcome a chapter, or an essay based on that.  Papers could be circulated beforehand informally.  The presentation could be kept within 45 min plus some time for discussion. Presentations should ideally represent the scholar’s current working drafts or recently published work.

Special Interest: For each year’s Quodlibet, we would especially welcome papers encircling a specially chosen topic, e.g. in 2013 it was “Design in/as/and education”. However. as usual we would also welcome papers focusing on other educational issues.

If you are interested, please do contact me to receive an invitation.
